Packed with a score of health benefits, mushrooms are a tasty addition to your healthy eating plan. Mushrooms are low in calories, free of fat and cholesterol, and high in a large variety of vitamins, nutrients and potassium. They also boost our immune systems, making our bodies and minds stronger to tackle the day ahead of us.
All year round.
When you spot a fresh punnet of mushrooms in the grocery store, have a look at how moist they are. As mushrooms age, they get more moist and slimy looking. The perfect mushroom should look and feel firm and dry. If you see bits of dirt on the mushrooms, push the punnet to the side and move on to the next one because this isn’t an indicator of freshness – all it means is that you are going to have to wash it a bit more when you use them.
Mushrooms can be prepared in a variety of delicious and different ways. From being served up as a standalone ingredient to support whatever other flavours are present on your dish, to being the star of the dish itself like in a yummy mushroom and rice bowl. They bring a truly tasty element to whatever it is you are eating. To us, there isn’t much that can top simply frying mushrooms in a hot pan with a heart-healthy dollop of Flora Margarine until they are soft and golden brown.
It is essential that you keep your mushrooms refrigerated. It is also important to only wash your mushrooms when you are about to use them. Mushrooms tend to absorb water, so when storing them we recommend allowing for a bit of air circulation. Simply crack their container’s lid open.
